Cylindropuntia ( lat.  Cylindropuntia ) je rod kaktusů běžný v pouštích Spojených států a Mexika .

Místní název pro tyto kaktusy s rovnými a rozvětvenými kmeny je cholla .

V roce 1856 popsal George Engelmann tyto kaktusy jako podrod ( Opuntia subg.  cylindropuntia ) rodu Opuntia . V roce 1930 Friedrich Knuth povýšil status této skupiny na samostatný rod [2] . DNA studie Stephena Dickeyho a Roberta Volase v roce 2001 poukazují na monofyletický původ cylindropuntia nezávislý na opunciích.

Druh

Podle výzkumu Donalda Pinkavy a Johna Rebmana zahrnuje rod Cylindropuntia 33 druhů a 9 přirozených hybridů, které rostou na jihu a jihozápadě Spojených států a v severním Mexiku .
